Fun Worship and Play Ideas

10 Tips for Everyday:

•        worship songs softly in the background as children play
•        high energy worship music when exercising, use it to time how long they   
have physical activity.
•        play worship dvds before quiet time or naps
•        prayer songs before bed
•        instrumental worship music played as dinner music
•        listen to worship music in the car, shortens a boring trip
•        make a special worship tape for each family member for them to enjoy while
reading, napping, studying, playing, for quiet times or devotionals
•        download/upload music onto your computer for listening when e-mailing,
working, surfing, or playing. Show your child how to start the media player so they
can enjoy the music too.
•        Play worship songs while doing menial tasks, housework, chores, cooking
and cleaning. Service flows out of worship, and children will learn to model that
behavior.
•        Discussion starters, point out the lyrics and discuss them with your children.

10 Tips to Include Worship in Play:

•        Star Gazing Party- collect a song list with lyrics about God the Creator, the
Universe and the Wonders in the Sky. Create a CD and grab a big blanket.  Have
a bonfire and roast marshmallows. God of Wonders, My Creator King,  Thy Word,
any song about light, stars, darkness, God creating the heavens.
•        Worship and Art- play worship songs and lay out large sheets of paper,
crayons, finger paint, pencils, markers. Have children create pictures to illustrate
what they hear being sung- either words or feelings.
•        Have a Christmas carol sing-along while decorating the tree or baking
Christmas cookies,  and wrapping presents.
•        Decorate an Easter Tree. Lyrics about the sacrifice Christ made for us and
have children make ornaments to decorate a pussy willow tree. Paint Easter eggs
and stuff Resurrection Eggs.
•        Using a tarp and 2x4’s construct an outdoor skating rink in your backyard.
Flood and freeze. Perform a Figure skating show set to worship music.
•        Nature Hike- take a hike in the woods pointing out the diversity of creation
•        All Saints Day Praise Party- Oct. 30th, songs about the victory of Christ on
the Cross, pray for missionaries around the world and the persecuted church.
•        Chanukah- The Festival of Lights, songs about miracles and the aptitudes of
God, devotions, crafts.  
•        Thanksgiving- great holiday to focus on praise.
•        Family Game Night- play worship music in the background, snacks and
board games.
